Auto Repair & Check Engine Diagnostics in Newbury Park, CA

We’re more than a tire shop. Cal Tire & Auto Repair is a full-service auto repair and maintenance center — check engine lights, drivability problems and mechanical repairs for cars, trucks, SUVs and fleet vehicles.

A Code Is a Starting Point

When your check engine light comes on, the car’s computer stores a trouble code. Reading it takes seconds — but the code only tells us which system reported a problem, not which part failed. A misfire code, for example, could come from a spark plug, an ignition coil, a fuel injector, a vacuum leak or low compression.

That’s why we test before we replace. We use the code as a starting point, then check live data, run component tests and inspect the system until we know what’s wrong — so you only pay to fix what’s broken.

Steady Light or Flashing Light?

  • Steady: something needs attention soon. It’s usually OK to drive to the shop, but don’t ignore it — small problems can damage expensive parts over time.
  • Flashing: an active misfire that can overheat and damage the catalytic converter. Ease off, avoid hard acceleration and call us at (805) 499-4811.

Repairs We Handle

Honest Answers, Every Time

If it’s a repair we don’t do, we’ll tell you up front and point you in the right direction. If it’s something that can wait, we’ll tell you that too. Our goal is to be the shop your family depends on for years — not to sell you a repair you don’t need.

Check engine light on? Call (805) 499-4811 and we’ll get it looked at.

FAQ

Auto Repair Questions

Can I keep driving with the check engine light on?

If the light is steady and the car drives normally, it’s usually fine to drive it to the shop soon. If the light is flashing, or the car is running rough, overheating or losing power, pull over when it’s safe and call us.

Do you just read the code, or actually diagnose the problem?

We diagnose. A trouble code tells us which system reported a fault, not which part failed. We use the code as a starting point, then test live data and components until we know what’s wrong, so you only pay to fix what’s broken.

What kinds of repairs do you handle?

Brakes, A/C, steering and suspension, batteries and electrical, engine and tune-ups, transmission, cooling system, exhaust, check engine and drivability problems, and the scheduled maintenance that goes with them. If it’s something we don’t do, we’ll tell you up front.

Do you work on trucks and fleet vehicles?

Yes — cars, trucks, SUVs and fleet vehicles. See our fleet service page for how we handle work vehicles.
