Fluid Service Prevents Most Failures

Heat is the enemy of a transmission, and towing, stop-and-go traffic and the Conejo Grade all add heat. Fresh fluid on the manufacturer’s interval — or sooner for hard use — is the single best thing you can do for a transmission’s life. Many Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Subaru models use a CVT that is particular about its fluid; we use the exact type your vehicle calls for.

Repair or Replace?

It depends on what failed, the vehicle’s age and mileage, and your plans for the car. We lay out the options and the cost of each, and if the honest answer is that a repair isn’t worth it, we’ll tell you.

FAQ

Transmission Questions

What causes a transmission to slip?

Low or burnt fluid, worn clutch packs or bands inside the transmission, a failing solenoid or a faulty sensor can all cause slipping. Testing tells us which.

How often should transmission fluid be changed?

It depends on the vehicle — some manufacturers list an interval, while others call the fluid “lifetime.” Heat is hard on transmission fluid, so it’s worth having it checked during routine maintenance, especially if you tow or drive the Conejo Grade daily.

Do you service CVT transmissions?

Yes. Many Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Subaru models use a CVT, which needs the specific fluid the manufacturer calls for. We use the correct fluid and procedure for your vehicle.

Should I repair or replace my transmission?

It depends on what failed, the vehicle’s age and mileage, and your plans for the car. We’ll walk you through the options and the cost of each before you decide.
